FENLAND DISTRICT COUNCIL PRESS RELEASE

Don’t lose your voice - Annual Household Canvass gets underway
Local residents are being reminded not to lose their voice on decisions that affect them by making sure their household details are up to date.
The annual canvass ensures that Fenland District Council can keep the electoral register up to date, identifying any residents who are not registered so that they can be encouraged to do so.
With local elections taking place in May 2021, this is an important opportunity for residents to make sure they can take part.
This year the Council is running a Reformed Canvass which simplifies the process and makes it clearer for citizens. Households may also now be contacted in a number of different ways including by email, post and by phone.
As part of the Reformed Canvass process, not all households will be required to respond as they have done in previous years. Those that are still required to respond will be encouraged to do so as soon as possible to ensure that the process runs smoothly and to remove the need for any further contact.
Leader of the Council Chris Boden, Fenland District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Finance with responsibility for Corporate Governance, said: “It’s important that residents keep an eye out for any messages from the Council, so we can make sure we have the right details on the electoral register for every address in Fenland.
“This year’s canvass, which we have to carry out by law, is taking place during a challenging public health situation. We are working to ensure that we take into account the current public health guidelines, including the continued importance of social distancing.”
People who have moved address recently are particularly encouraged to keep an eye out for the form and check the details.
